Origin and traceability

Protected designation of origin (PDO) is the European label that identifies local products with specialquality and typicity traits. Asparago Bianco di Bassano del Grappa was awarded PDO labelling in November 2007 thanks to the concerted efforts of Coldiretti, other professional associations, local authorities and the association for the protection and promotion of Asparago Bianco di Bassano DOP.

Product origin nowadays is guaranteed by registering producers and packers in a special list managed by the control body. Product traceability at all production chain stages must be guaranteed as follows:

• All land for cultivating Asparago Bianco di Bassano DOP must be registered in the list supervised by the control body;

• The cadastral register data for land cultivating Asparago Bianco di Bassano DOP must be indicated and for each cadastral parcel there must be a corresponding indication of the owner, the producer, the location and the size of the growing area;

• Progressive numbering of codes used for each labelled bundle must be entered in a special register, filled out and kept by the producer, made available for inspection by the control body as required.
